Trying to niche is a waste of time...you should let your niche come to you
Ha! Don’t you just love those folks with the killer business instinct?
“You’re wasting energy on trying to niche”, they huff into their smartphone. "Niche, market, ideal client avatar? pffffffffff...you’re procrastinating. Just get *out there*…and let your niche find you.”
You were *born* niche / you hammered it out before lunch
Hey ho. Being passive around niching is totally cool if you were born niche or if you’ve hammered out your niche one day before lunch, on a napkin…ugh!
“pfff...just get on with business – the sales will follow””
Your laugh sounds hollow from being stuck in the niching processes; their voice is fading into the hum: “don't overthink it”, it echoes “you don’t need an avatar, you need to SELL that shizzle”
FALSE, of course! Beware. Don't post generic fluff without depth and personality.
Still, so many struggling entrepreneurs do just that.
They worry they won’t be able to grow an audience if they go niche in content and personality. The result: wishy washy content, confusing offerings and a hesitation to show up authentically. Stand-out factor? Negative.
Yet, they still dilute it all down
Well, they fear pushing followers away and they worry they’ll be laughed at. They assume people on the internet aren’t going to be interested if they define their field too narrowly.
And I get it! You’re concerned people unfollow you if you go too specific (and some might). You’re holding back because some people might laugh (ditto!)
We all want to fit in, it’s part of being human. But keep in mind that not showing up authentically with your THING isn’t fulfilling and it hurts sales.
Tired of having low impact? Change the way you approach business.
You likely have a thousand interests and passions you follow, but I bet you’ve realised that if you want to grow one of them you need to focus on it (at least for some time).
The question is: how do we feel about this?
Are we *ready* to focus...excited even?
Probably not. I was fighting with this for the longest time. It took me ages to stop calling myself 'business success coach' and zone in on becoming ‘the Niche Queen’.
But being a ‘business success coach’ is like wanting to be the sun, it’s glorious, but very diffuse. The Niche Queen is precise and targeted, she helps entrepreneurs nail their niche.
It was a scary step to take, but it didn’t limit me as I feared, transforming myself into the Niche Queen actually grew my reach. Since I’ve taken on that new identity, my business has quadrupled and is continuing to expand.
Can't seem to nail your niche? Your fear of making a mistake might be at play. Let's investigate...
Geez. You're stumbling at the first obstacle. Falling. Overwhelmed, you stay on the ground in suspended action, paralysed. This is annoying.
Here. Have a gentle smackdown. Getup. Comeback. I’m going to take you by the hand and by the end of this article you’ll be ready to walk over this hurdle.
[YOU] UGH why's this so hard? I don’t want to decide on a niche. There's so many things I wanna do. So many things I COULD DO. I don't want to make the wrong choice. Getting it wrong…Regretting it.
I get it, I really do. Deciding on something kills off all other options and that sucks. Who wants to do that?
What if you make a bad choice? In the back of your mind you worry of getting into a trap, going down the wrong lane.
Let's tackle this fear
The solution to this fear is simple. If you've gone down the wrong lane you...
Yes. You too can niche, despite being multi-passionate
[YOU] C’mon. Staying on ONE topic for too long is killin me. Are you joking?
Well, no, I’m not joking. Your topic might be an inch wide…but it’s a mile deep. And I dare you to discover it fully, but you may have to slow down a bit.
I'm positive that you can do this – even if you get bored easily. Even if pursuing the one thing, specialising on the one niche sounds dull to you right now.
I’ve been where you are
If you're anything like me then you might be an easily bored thrill seeker! Excitement, surprises, and novelty delight you and you loathe routine, structure, repetition.
But if you want to achieve your business goals, you’ll have to buckle down and focus on one thing at a time. So claim and own a niche, discover all its secrets, fascinating truths, connections. I've done just that and if I can do this, you can too.
You won’t be able to get very far in your niche if you don't claim this expertise. How to set yourself up for success…
“....Who are you to teach this? Who do you think you *are* to help people with this? How can say with a straight face that you’re an expert of ______________. You don’t have enough experience. You. have. no. CLUE how they do it....”
If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking this then you’re not alone. Humans are brought up to be like this. We’re critical. We question, doubt, cast shadows. We compare ourselves unfavourably…a loser, a fraud.
The most toxic belief of them all
This negative thinking hurts our progress in life so much and all of it boils down to the one limiting belief:
“I’m not enough”
And this is the exact train of thought that'll prevent you from being the leader and teacher you’re meant to be. That’s going to stop your in its tracks full stop.
